iran-riotAs I watch the political turmoil unfold in Iran, one part of the news really hit me hard. In that part of the world, blogging and using social networks can actually be dangerous and lead to arrest—if not worse.

Blogging is much more than a marketing platform—it’s a vital communication tool to chronicle events, issues, opinions, view and beliefs. It’s disturbing to me when that communication tool is censored or shut down.

According to the news, the Iran blogosphere is 60-100K. And the folks who have those blogs are in peril.

I am very thankful that I live in a country where there is freedom of speech, without the threat of someone showing up at my door because I made a blog post the government didn’t agree with.

Whether you have a blog or are considering starting one, I hope you realize that your blog is a very powerful communication tool. Provided you are not living in a repressive country, you have the opportunity to make your voice heard—on a global scale if you prefer.

Don’t take your blog for granted. While a blog can be a very powerful marketing platform…

The communication that you provide on your blog can influence people and actually change lives.

Appreciate the expansive voice a blog can afford you—provided you live on the globe in a place where blogging doesn’t threaten your life.

Having served in the military for 20 years, you can probably tell that freedom of speech is a big deal to me.

Cheers,
