Getting The Most Out Of The Google XML Sitemap Plugin
While the Google XML Sitemap plugin for WordPress works automatically to communicate changes to your blog sitemap to the search engines (which enhances blog post indexing)…
There is one option provided by the plugin that you may want to configure to further enhance your search mojo with this plugin. This enhancement involves your updated sitemap communication with Yahoo.
Right out of the box, this fantastic plugin automatically generates and updates an XML sitemap for your blog and notifies top search engines that your blog sitemap has been updated.
Here are the major search engines that this plugin communicates with by default:
Google
Bing (formerly MSN Live)
Ask.com
But you need a Yahoo App ID in order for your Google XML Sitemap plugin to communicate changes to Yahoo.
While this may seem a bit intimidating at first glance, it is very easy to get your Yahoo Application ID in just a few minutes and to configure the Google XML Sitemap plugin to communicate your sitemap changes with Yahoo.
If you have the Google XML Sitemap plugin installed, login to your blog Dashboard and:
Click on Settings ==> XML Sitemap
Scroll down to find this settings section:

You can see that you need a Yahoo App ID to configure your blog sitemap to communicate changes to Yahoo.
Here’s the step-by-step procedure you need to follow to get your Yahoo App ID (screenshot examples included):

Save your changes by using the Update Options button at the bottom of the XML sitemap settings page.
So, if you really want to squeeze the most out of the Google XML sitemap plugin, I would highly recommend that you take just a few minutes and expand your sitemap’s ability to communicate changes to your sitemap directly to Yahoo.
It can only mean more traffic to your blog. Need I say more?
