Measuring Your WordPress Blog Progress Using Alexa
One of the reasons that I am so adamant about tracking your traffic statistics is because it is a performance indicator.
If you are blogging regularly and using the SEO techniques along with the other techniques described on this blog already, you should see the traffic to your blog increase on a consistent basis.
As a side note—virtually everything you need to start and grow a blog rapidly is already available to you now for FREE on this blog.
But let’s talk for a moment about another progress indicator you may want to look at from time to time called Alexa rankings.
There is a free service that has been around for years called Alexa, which globally ranks websites on a numerical scale based on traffic received, time on page, incoming links and a variety of other factors.
If you were to consider your daily traffic statistics as micro progress indicators, you could consider your Alexa ranking as a macro progress indicator.
Not only that, your Alexa ranking is an indication of your blog’s traffic status as compared with every other website on the planet.
Pretty cool, huh?
Let me give you some early Alexa ranking statistics for the first months of the blog that you are reading right now.
I started this blog in the first part of April, 2009. I didn’t even check the Alexa rankings for almost a month. By the first of May 2009, I was just under 700,000 on my Alexa ranking for this blog.
To me, that’s great progress—to be under 700,000 of all the blogs and websites in the world in one short month.
Now here’s the really cool part:
As of June 15, 2009, this blog was just under 460,000 for my Alexa ranking. That’s a fairly significant increase in worldwide traffic rank, don’t you think?
If you look at the bottom of this blog post, you will see my current Alexa ranking displayed as of today and if my estimates are correct…
My Alexa ranking will have already improved.
Here’s the bottom line:
My blogs are intended for a global audience. Subsequently, I want to see where I rank among other websites on a global scale.
That’s why I am personally interested in my Alexa ranking and have put a widget in my sidebar so I can easily monitor my Alexa ranking and point to it as this blog gains momentum in the world.
If it is possible, I want to be in the top 100,000 in Alexa as soon as possible.
I use my Alexa ranking as a motivator to do more to improve my status among all other websites and blogs on the planet.
Now if you want to help me reach my Alexa ranking goal, you can – very easily…
Simply use the links at the bottom of this blog post to share it with others or to bookmark it on your favorite social bookmarking website.
That’s it! It will take you less than 60 seconds and will help me achieve my goals.
Thank you so much for your support and I encourage you to look carefully at this blog and the information that I provide. I hold nothing back and you can have an income producing blog for yourself that is shooting up the Alexa ranks.
Cheers,
