Does Your Ping List Work For Or Against You?
This post is for folks who already have a WordPress blog and want to squeeze out every bit of traffic generation power that you can from each and every blog post you make.
As you are probably aware, traffic to your blog is directly related to your blog income (if your blog is monetized properly).
In this article, I’m going to reccomend that you have a specifc free plugin installed that deals with pings when you post on your blog and to make sure that your ping list settings are up to date.
First let’s talk about the free plugin…

The bottom line: This plugin is essential. There is a similar plugin that is no longer maintained called Smart Pinger Updater. Because I treat my blogs like a business, I am hard pressed to use a plugin that is not maintained, especially one that performs such a critical function.
It is critical that you have a plugin installed that controls your blog pinging BEFORE you go to update your ping list. This is a largely overlooked traffic generation tool right in your blog.
Here’s what you do:
In your blog Dashboard, go to Settings, then click on the Writing link. You will see a box that contains your ping list. The default setting upon installation has just ONE ping resource which is:
http://rpc.pingomatic.com
If you haven’t done so already, you need to update your ping list with all the active ping resources. The link is right there, above the box containing all the active ping resources (make sure you leave the default ping resource intact).
Make sure you push the save button when you have updated your ping list.
You need to know this…
It will take longer for a post to published once this list has been updated — that’s because each of those ping resources is being contacted each time you publish a post.
And with the plugin I recommended earlier, you don’t have to worry about re-pinging each time you publish a blog post.
As you can see, these are some basic, yet important strategies you need to get every ounce of blog income and traffic power from your blog.
