Of all the techniques, methods and strategies I can give you to increase traffic to your blog, there is one significant piece of the traffic puzzle that I can’t give you, which is…

I can’t give your blog longevity. What do I mean by that?

By longevity, I mean how long your blog has been alive and active. This is something very few “gurus” ever mention, but it does play a significant role in your blog traffic.

I have two blogs that I started in which I deliberated moved slowly and methodically with in order to more accurately track my traffic generation efforts.

On these blogs, I have averaged one completely optimized blog post every two days. I have written articles and hub pages for increased traffic and backlinks. I use a killer little social bookmarking service that I will be talking about extensively in another post.

But here’s something interesting that I noticed on both blogs—my blog traffic increased noticeably at these longevity markers:

Both of the blogs that I am referring to are coming up on another “birthday” soon and it will be interesting to see if my traffic increases again, which I suspect it will — even though I have done nothing “extra special” to get more traffic.

It only makes sense that longevity matters when it comes to search engine “mojo”. The more “mature” your blog is, the more traffic it will bring (as long as you keep it active).

I tell you this because many people are under the impression that you can publish three blog posts and somehow, as if by magic, traffic will pour in. Well, it won’t do that unless you are paying to have traffic pour in.

This same longevity concept can be applied to Hub Pages and articles as well. The more “mature” they are, the more search engine weight they will have.

You can increase your traffic by increasing the number of optimized blog posts you publish. Like I said, I moved slowly on purpose to get some real traffic numbers and to accurately track each of my traffic generation strategies for effectiveness.

Still, you must factor in longevity. You are competing for virtual real estate on the search engines against blogs and websites that have much more search engine “mojo” than your blog will ever have. But don’t let that even be a factor!

You can still get traffic, get on the first page of Google and grow your blog steadily in spite of all this competition. I know because I have done it already with my two blogs.

Just keep an eye on your blog’s “birthday” and see for yourself if what I am saying hold true.

Cheers,
