IP addresses aren't going to be definitive, depending on your ISP. Most ISPs have a block of addresses that are randomly allocated, and reassigned every so often. Unless you've specifically paid for a static IP address, you may be operating from a dynamically reallocated address. Not disconnecting your computer won't help, as the addresses are given a time-to-live, after which they are reallocated.

I exclude myself from my blog/web stats by having the admin section of the website under a different subdomain. ie. main site : http://www.stevedix.de, admin section http://admin.stevedix.de (and no, that's not the real subdomain) That way the log files for the main site and the admin are separate. Lots of ISPs allow you unlimited subdomains, which is a very effective method of sectioning your stats.

The only real way to filter yourself out is if you know what IP's you are using -- those can then be entered into your analytics account.

Hi Steve

Thanks for the info. I'm moving around quite a lot for work so can be accessing my site from 5 different places a week - hotels, cafes etc.

Is there a way to filter myself out of analytics without having to add all these IPs each time I get to a new network?
