navy-shipAs a Navy veteran who retired from active duty at the ripe old age of 39…

I know the benefits of drawing military retirement pay.

But I also know that it can be difficult for those who are preparing to retire in the near future to figure out what they are going to do when they finally retire.

Most will tell you to begin your job search in the private sector no later than 12 months from your retirement date. I would agree with that, having been in the position of trying to find a job that would compensate me for my skill and education.

Because just like you…

I knew that the minute I retired from the Navy, my regular pay would decrease by over 50%. And it doesn’t take a long time without a job to feel a serious money crunch.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.

Well, there is an alternate path that you may want to take and that is…

Start a blog about something that you love to talk about. Monetize your blog. If you start your blog 18 months from retirement, get the tips and techniques you need right from this blog, and blog everyday, making sure your blog is monetized…

There’s a very good possibility that you could actually replace the income you lose from military retirement with income from your blog—and possibly beyond that.

I’m not suggesting that you abandon your job search activities—not at all. What I am suggesting is that you start and grow a monetized blog as a back-up income source while you are considering your job options upon retirement from the military.

Here are the details you need to know about starting a blog for profit:

Here’s what I know for sure…

You are in a position right now to build an income from a blog while you are still on active duty, talking about whatever it is you love to talk about.

If you do that daily by blogging and your blog is set up and monetized properly…

It is possible to generate a supplemental income of $300-$500 per month (possibly more) in 6 months working 6-8 hours per week on your blog (beyond initial set-up). And that income could triple in the following 6 months.

Nope, it’s certainly not that “get rich quick” nonsense that you see everywhere online. But the income is very real if you are willing to work for it on a consistent basis.

I just want to make sure that military members who are about to retire know that they have this option available now, with free resources and tools that simply were not available to me when I retired from the Navy.

Just make sure that you do your homework before you jump into blogging for supplemental income. Otherwise, you can end up making the same critical mistakes I made when I first started blogging.

If you know anyone who will be leaving the military in the next 12-24 months, please pass this article along to them.
