Using RSS Feeds To Get More Traffic To Your Blog
One of the things that you definitely want to avoid is having a large amount of duplicate content on your blog—like RSS feeds tend to offer if you are thinking about using someone else’s content as your primary blog content (not recommended).
But you can use a few keyword specific RSS feeds on your blog sidebar to provide other news related to your blog and to have frequently changing content on your blog.
You will notice on the left sidebar this blog that there are two RSS feeds with article headlines being displayed—one for Internet Marketing News and another for WordPress News.
These RSS feeds offer links to related articles that may be of interest to my readers on this blog.
But more than that…
And each of these RSS feeds has brought this blog traffic (I know because I use the Firestats plugin) – traffic that wasn’t searching for content on my blog.
Let me explain…
Each of those RSS feeds are keyword specific to this blog, which is about Internet Marketing using a WordPress platform.
The RSS feeds I use change on an hourly basis, serving up the headlines to articles related to the keywords I used.
As people search online, a match can be made between your blog and what the visitor was looking for, based on the relevant keywords displayed from RSS feed titles.
Search spiders work in a fraction of a second to find and display the relevant info someone is searching for online. That can include relevant RSS feed info being displayed on your blog. But let’s not get too complex here…
This is what you really need to know:
You can use a couple of RSS feeds in your WordPress sidebar to display the headlines of keyword specific RSS feeds related to your blog content and without getting your blog penalized for “duplicate content”.
The functionality to have RSS feeds in your WordPress sidebar is built in to v2.7+.
Here’s how you can easily find keyword specific RSS feeds for your blog:

That’s all there is to it and that’s all the RSS action I am using on this blog.
What I have just described is not a huge traffic generator, but it does generate a little traffic — automatically. I just set it up once and forget about it.
