One thing that you don’t see very many comedians doing these days is celebrity impersonations.

I find that somewhat odd because:

1. Audiences love celebrity impersonations (just check out the video below).

2. It’s very easy to impress and entertain friends and family with celebrity voice impersonations, even if you don’t use them in your act.

3. It’s never been easier to access the audio and video needed to develop your own celebrity impersonations if you have a desire to develop them (it used to be a hassle for sure).

The process for developing celebrity voice impersonations for your stand-up comedy act (or just for personal fun) is actually not difficult at all. But it is a process.

Many of the popular stand-up comedy books, courses, workshops and classes suggest that an individual who wants be successful as a comedian needs to develop a special and unique stage “character”.

Oddly enough, none of these books give much in the way of insight on exactly how to develop this “character”. The same can be said of most stand-up comedy workshops and classes as well.

In my opinion, this is just another example of how “conventional wisdom” on stand-up comedy makes it much more difficult than it really is.
