Introduction
Are you one of those folks who are struggling with “writing” your stand-up comedy material and would like a professional “joke writer” do it for you?
Then there’s a very good chance that you are among the masses who believe that stand-up comedy material is “written” in the literal sense.
This is a serious misconception whether you are developing your own stand-up comedy material or want to have a professional comedy writer do it for you.

Are You Using A One Dimensional Approach In A Three Dimensional Performing Art?
If you understand the information provided in that article and the rest of the information on this page, then you should have a pretty good clue as to why it is very FOOLISH to buy “generic”, paper written “jokes” from anyone.
So when it comes to buying “jokes” — buyer beware.

Steve,
As always, you speak the truth. I was approached by a comedian who is trying to build his act. He asked if I would write him some material. I told him I need to see his act so I can see if I could write to his performance style. He was a little shocked, because he had bought some material in the past and no one had asked to see his performance first. I asked if the material he bought had worked for him. His answer was “no”.
I’m still waiting (over a year now) for him to send me some video of him performing.
I’ve sold sketches to sketch comedy groups, I’ve helped a friend punch up a movie script, and I’ve sold stand-up material – but only after I’ve seen their act.
I have come to the conclusion that the saying “the blind leading the blind” came from someone who observed people trying to become comedians. Thanks for your comment!
